A local council is ushering in the next generation of apprentices by giving them the valuable opportunity to learn while they work alongside members of the council’s maintenance team.
Ten apprentice plumbers in Redditch are being given the chance to learn on the job as Redditch Borough Council beings a maintenance programme of more than 6000 of the council homes in their care.
The initiative comes as Redditch Borough Council continue to promote the drive for skilled apprentices after a council-backed campaign last year encouraged businesses to create 50 apprenticeships in 50 days.
Councillor Mark Shurmer, who is responsible for the council-run housing programme said, Redditch Borough Council is delighted to continue its commitment to improving skills and opportunities in the borough.
The programme continues to help young apprentices gain real world experience which both compliments and supports their studies. MPower Training Solutions’ Ian Doust who manages the plumbing provision at NEW College, added: Its been an exciting project working with the borough council maintenance teams, who have offered such strong support to our students.
He went on to say, All of our plumbing students have thoroughly enjoyed their time on site and the support and guidance they have received from council plumber Dan Turner has been immensely valuable.
